"Pirate" is one of the discoveries of Evgeny Kolobov. The piano score and fragments of the score were found in the library of the Mariinsky Theatre. The conductor created his own version and orchestration of the opera and presented it in a concert version in the Great Hall of the Leningrad Philharmonic in 1984. For the first time in the Soviet years, the composition was performed in the original language. In 1989, the maestro staged The Pirate at the K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko. In 2008 fragments of the opera were published on CD (recorded in 1985). In 2021, on the occasion of the 75th birthday anniversary of Evgeny Vladimirovich Kolobov, the work will be performed in concert at the Epiphany Festival at Novaya Opera. Bellini’s Il pirata is a masterpiece of bel canto, and Dmitry Korchak is a leading interpreter of this repertoire. In this concert version of Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre Moscow, the Russian tenor is in the role of Gualtiero. He sings his love for Imogene which gives him strength ‘in the fury of the storm’ (‘Nel furor delle tempeste’)
