Straordinario effetto di luce e talento, questo lavoro del giovane Händel alla sua prima esperienza in Italia, è punto d’incontro tra la vita musicale più eletta e rappresentativa del nostro paese e la prorompente personalità di ciò che sarà definito da tutti come il principe della musica vocale nei primi cinquant’anni del settecento. Saranno Alessandro Scarlatti, Bernardo Pasquini, il grande mecenate Ottoboni, e naturalmente il re del violino Arcangelo Corelli a sostenere e partecipare nella Roma del 1707 a questo evento straordinario, che determinerà per sempre un cambio di visione tra drammaturgia e tessuto musicale tale da influenzare tutto il repertorio successivo.

In the summer of 1707 a barely twenty-two-year-old Handel presented his first oratorio in Rome with a libretto by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphilj. Beauty (soprano) lives under the spell of Pleasure (soprano) until Time (tenor) and Disillusionment (alto) convince her to take a new path of repentance and devoted austerity. Consisting of two parts, it includes some of Handel's most beautiful arias (in particular the bewitching "Lascia la spina"), virtuosic passages for the organ (intended for Handel himself) and for the first violin (part written expressly for Arcangelo Corelli, director of the first execution). Il trionfo del Tempo remained for Handel a sort of storehouse from which he drew for other works on no less than 30 occasions.
