The intense musical beauty of Il trovatore has given rise to fervent expressions of admiration: “apotheosis of bel canto ”; «masterpiece of romanticism»; « Italian Passion According to Saint Matthew ». Premiered in 1853, it is the second opera in the Verdian "Popular Trilogy". The libretto, considered confusing and excessive, tells the story of the gypsy Azucena, who, maddened by the death of her mother, sent to burn for witchcraft, throws her own son into the fire.

Enrico Caruso used to say that for a successful performance of this opera, the four greatest singers in the world are needed. In 1949, we had Caniglia, Stignani, Gigli and Bechi in São Carlos.

Stefano Vizioli returns to our theatre, where he made his directorial debut in 1988 with Manon Lescaut . Portuguese interpreters will defend the two main female roles: Cristiana Oliveira will sing her second Leonora Verdiana; Cátia Moreso will be Azucena. The titular role will be played by tenor Azer Zada ​​who, after debuting in 2009 in his native Azerbaijan, conquered Scala and other Italian theaters with a Verdian repertoire. He made his debut in São Carlos in La Wally and returns to sing his first Manrico.

A intensa beleza musical de Il trovatore tem suscitado fervorosas expressões de admiração: «apoteose do bel canto»; «obra-prima do romantismo»; «Paixão Segundo São Mateus italiana». Estreada em 1853, é a segunda ópera da «Trilogia Popular» verdiana. O libreto, considerado confuso e excessivo, conta, por alto, a história da cigana Azucena, que, tresloucada pela morte da mãe, mandada queimar por bruxaria, lança ao fogo o próprio filho.

Dizia Enrico Caruso que, para uma récita com sucesso desta ópera, são necessários os quatro maiores cantores do mundo. Em 1949, tivemos em São Carlos Caniglia, Stignani, Gigli e Bechi.

Stefano Vizioli regressa ao nosso teatro, onde se estreou como encenador, em 1988, com Manon Lescaut. Intérpretes portuguesas defenderão os dois principais papéis femininos: Cristiana Oliveira cantará a sua segunda Leonora verdiana; Cátia Moreso será Azucena. O papel titular será defendido pelo tenor Azer Zada que, depois de se ter estreado em 2009 no Azerbaijão natal, conquistou o Scala e outros teatros italianos com repertório verdiano.
