Iolanta (1891) is the last opera by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, written by him a year before his death. It is considered to be the brightest opera of the composer.
The scenography of the performance is solved on contrasts and is symbolic. The starry sky, the balloons-planets, the black-and-white world of Iolanta are contrasted with the bright, colorful and cheerful reality that the father hides from his daughter. In a happy ending, these two worlds, of course, will unite.

The music of the opera is light and lyrical and filled with stunningly beautiful memorable melodies. And who does not know the first stanza of Robert's aria "Who can compare with my Matilda?"! This aria is a constant hit in the concert repertoire of baritones.

An unusual character is the Moorish doctor, the mysterious and mystical personality of Ebn-Hakia. There's something of a stargazer, a soothsayer, an oracle. His cloak is embroidered with light bulbs, in his hands - a ball, which, as if by magic, lights up only from touching. He is called by King René to heal Iolanthe of blindness, but the true healer turns out to be Love.

There are many interesting stage effects in the performance, because it is important to tell such a noble and kind story beautifully.
