Incredibly, Andrew Lloyd Webber was only twenty-two years old when the Palace Theater presented his second rock opera in 1970, which he co-wrote with Tim Rice, who was four years older than him and had a somewhat more serious professional background. The Jesus Christ Superstar was an immediate success, and after the premiere in London, it was staged in almost every country in the world. When the creators were asked about the choice of theme for the musical, they provided an extremely simple explanation. As they put it, they think the biblical story is a "great story". What is characteristic of the work besides the music: it depicts the world's best-known story not in the usual way, but from the point of view of Judas.
