In der symbolischen Leere gehen jene sinn- und gemeinschaftsstiftenden Bilder und Metaphern verloren, die das Leben stabilisieren. Die Erfahrung der Dauer nimmt ab.“ (Byung-Chul Han) Zentrale Funktion des Ritus, der im Kollektiv begangenen kultisch-religiösen Feier, ist seit eh und je, symbolischen Kitt herzustellen, mit dem sich Gruppen eines gemeinsamen Ursprungs erinnern (so wurde einst das europäische Theater aus dem griechischen Kultus geboren). Auch in Johann Sebastian Bachs Johannes-Passion hat die Wiedererzählung der Leidensgeschichte Jesu Christi eine universale politisch- vergemeinschaftende Seite: Die Frage nach der Herkunft Jesu spaltet eine Gruppe und produziert Stimmen mit unterschiedlichem Identifikationswert. In den herzerschütternden musikalischen Andachtsbildern vertiefen sich die einen in die menschlichen Dimensionen des Leidens Jesu, finden darin Trost und Stärke. Andere zweifeln an seinem göttlichen Ursprung, verlieren ihre Empathie, klagen an und toben. Die Johannes-Passion lenkt den Blick nicht allein aufs Jenseitige, sondern auch auf den Ursprung der individuellen Handlung aus der kollektiven Haltung – auf Fragen von Herrschaft und Zugehörigkeit, das Leid der Anderen und die Verantwortung ihnen gegenüber. Braucht es nicht nach allem, was wir wissen und wie wir gelebt haben, eine Neubewertung für die Verstrickung der Einzelnen mit der Welt? Regisseur und Bühnenbildner Ulrich Rasche projiziert diese Themen in einen Chor, in dessen Anschuldigung und Mitleiden sich Perspektiven des Gemeinschaftlichen abbilden. Welche davon wir leben wollen und können, wird sich zeigen.

Effervescent choruses, heartfelt chorales and heart-rending arias that call for compassion like meditative devotional images: all this is Johann Sebastian Bach's setting of the biblical St. John Passion . The heart of the story of the suffering and death of Jesus is made up of Peter's drama of loyalty, the conflict of conscience of the Roman governor Pontius Pilate and the Way of the Cross. However, Jesus' claim that he is God's Son is what is causing the fellowship to break down along lines of faith. Ulrich Rasche and his team stage the St. John Passion like an ancient tragedy: as a gripping chronicle of a division.

“In the symbolic emptiness, those images and metaphors that create meaning and community that stabilize life are lost. The experience of duration decreases.” (Byung-Chul Han) The central function of the rite, the cultic-religious celebration celebrated collectively, has always been to create symbolic cement with which groups of a common origin remember (this was once the European theater born out of the Greek cult). Also in Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passionthe retelling of the Passion of Jesus Christ has a universal, political, communitarian side: the question of Jesus' origin splits a group and produces voices with different identification values. In the heart-shattering musical devotional images, some delve into the human dimensions of Jesus' suffering and find comfort and strength in it. Others doubt its divine origin, lose their empathy, accuse and rage. The St. John Passion draws attention not only to the hereafter, but also to the origin of individual action from the collective attitude - to questions of domination and belonging, the suffering of others and responsibility towards them. Doesn't it take after all we know and how we've lived a reappraisal for the entanglement of individuals with the world? Director and set designer Ulrich Rasche projects these themes into a chorus whose accusations and pity reflect perspectives of the community. It remains to be seen which of these we want and are able to live.
