Trailer: Juditha triumphans | Stuttgart State Opera

The Assyrian general Holofernes lays siege to the Jewish city of Bethuli. The population faces the choice between surrender and certain death from starvation and thirst. The widow Judith goes to Holofernes' camp to beg mercy for her people. Dazzled by her beauty, he falls in love with her. At a banquet in Judith's honor, Holofernes becomes unconscious. Judith takes the chance and decapitates him with his own sword. The discovery of the mutilated corpse by Holofernes' servant Vagaus puts the Assyrians to flight. Bethulia is liberated.
