Katia and Marielle Labèque regularly dazzle audiences worldwide with their virtuosity, versatility and charisma.

Tonight there’s a chance to hear them in music that overflows with fairy-tale magic.

Opening with Debussy’s seductively exotic Epigraphes Antiques, they continue with Schubert’s Fantasy in F minor for duet, a work filled with understated passion and longing.

Ravel’s ballet suite Ma mère L’oye (Mother Goose) follows, capturing the enchantment of beloved stories including ‘Beauty and the Beast’.

That is also the subject of Jean Cocteau’s 1946 film La belle et la bête, and Philip Glass’ score later transformed the movie into a screen opera.

At Glass’ request, his long-time collaborator and arranger Michael Riesman, who conducted its 1994 world premiere, has made a new two-pianos arrangement of the music for the Labèque duo.

Glass says: ‘The Labèque sisters are tremendous. They are great performers, and great interpreters. And they are wonderful supporters of music, not only modern music, but just music.’
