Barokspecialist Nicholas McGegan stelde een hartverwarmend kerstprogramma samen, met fragmenten uit de feestelijke Music for the Royal Fireworks als opmaat. Georg Friedrich Händel componeerde de suite naar aanleiding van de Vrede van Aken, die een einde maakte aan de Oostenrijkse Successieoorlog. Sopraan Sunhae Im trakteert ons met haar satijnen stem op misschien wel de bekendste aria uit de barok: het ontroerende en onsterfelijke Lascia ch’io pianga. In aria’s van Bach en Händel gaat ze in dialoog met de jubelende trompet. En we verlaten ook even de barok, want Franz Schubert laat de bekende sopraan samen met de klarinet het woord. Michael Haydn, de jongere broer van Joseph, schetst met zijn Pastorello dan weer een uiterst sfeervol kersttafereel. Zet de kerstperiode feestelijk in met barokke pracht, omgeven door de comfortabele setting en fonkelende akoestiek van de Koningin Elisabethzaal.

Baroque specialist Nicholas McGegan curates a heartwarming Christmas program, featuring excerpts from the festive Music for the Royal Fireworks. Georg Friedrich Händel composed this suite to commemorate the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle, ending the War of Austrian Succession. Soprano Sunhae Im delights with her satin voice in perhaps the most famous baroque aria: the poignant and immortal Lascia ch’io pianga. Engaging in dialogue with jubilant trumpets, Im performs arias by Bach and Händel. Stepping briefly outside the Baroque, Franz Schubert allows the renowned soprano to converse with the clarinet. Michael Haydn, Joseph's younger brother, paints a charming Christmas scene with his Pastorello. Begin the festive season with baroque splendor in the comfortable ambiance and sparkling acoustics of the Queen Elisabeth Hall.
