Spuścizna pieśniowa Gabriela Faurégo jest raczej mało znana poza Francją. Kompozytor niewiele też pozostawił opracowań na głos i orkiestrę (niektóre pochodzą z muzyki teatralnej) – tym ciekawsze będzie zapoznanie się z ich wyborem podczas niniejszego koncertu. Cieszącą się dużą popularnością Clair de lune zorkiestrował sam Fauré, inną z jego sławnych pieśni, Après un rêve – Henri Busser, kolejne – Louis Aubert.

Tytułowy „eroe” III Symfonii Beethovena nie jest konkretną postacią, lecz ideą, muzyka zaś symbolizuje uniwersalne przesłanie dobra i piękna, miłości i poświęcenia, które powracają także w balecie Twory Prometeusza (jego motyw cytowany jest w finale symfonii), operze Fidelio czy w IX Symfonii. Utwór o klasycznej architektonice, obfituje w wiele innowacji formalnych – dla ówczesnych słuchaczy najbardziej kontrowersyjny był sam monumentalizm oraz siła muzycznej ekspresji: patos, namiętność, potęga brzmienia, dramatyczne kontrasty.

Karol Kurpiński, aktywny w pierwszych dekadach XIX wieku kompozytor, dyrygent i impresario, pozostawił po sobie muzykę fortepianową i orkiestrową, wciąż utrzymujący się w repertuarze Koncert klarnetowy oraz symfonię „batalistyczną”, poświęconą bitwie pod Borodino. Za swe główne powołanie uważał jednak tworzenie (zapomnianych dziś) oper – uwertura do jednej z nich, szczególnie popularnego Szarlatana, przypomni tę ważną aktywność wieloletniego dyrygenta i dyrektora sceny operowej Teatru Narodowego.

Gabriel Fauré's song legacy is rather little known outside of France. The composer also left few arrangements for voice and orchestra (some of them come from theatrical music) – it will be all the more interesting to get to know their selection during this concert. The very popular Clair de lune was orchestrated by Fauré himself, another of his famous songs, Après un rêve by Henri Busser, and another by Louis Aubert.

The title "eroe" of Beethoven 's 3rd Symphony is not a specific character but an idea, while the music symbolizes the universal message of good and beauty, love and sacrifice, which also recur in the ballet Forms of Prometheus (its motif is quoted in the finale of the symphony), the opera Fidelio or the  ninth Symphony . A work with classical architecture, abounds in many formal innovations - for the listeners of the time, the most controversial was the monumentalism itself and the power of musical expression: pathos, passion, the power of sound, dramatic contrasts.

Karol Kurpiński, a composer, conductor and impresario active in the first decades of the 19th century, left behind piano and orchestral music, the Clarinet Concerto , which is still in the repertoire , and the battle symphony dedicated to the Battle of Borodino. However, he considered creating operas (forgotten today) as his main vocation - the overture to one of them, the particularly popular Charlatan , will recall this important activity of the long-time conductor and director of the opera house of the National Theatre.
