In 19th century Paris, the center of European culture, but in the back alleys where the splendor did not reach, there were young artists living in poverty but with bloated dreams. When Christmas comes to them, the cheerful young poet Rodolfo and the beautiful and innocent Mimi fall in love with each other. The joyous and sad story of their love, which was even more beautiful because it was so short and innocent, unfolds.

 

Puccini, who had a huge success with the opera Manon Lesco in 1893, struggles with how to continue his success. In the end, he chose La Boheme, the most romantic of all operas. In <La Boheme>, Puccini presented the world of the young soul who has not yet lost its ideal and innocence, that momentary moment with beautiful music on stage.

 

<La Boheme> is an opera that is filled with a beautiful aria as much as any other work. Meeting the songs sung by so many singers in the opera, such as 'Your Cold Hand', a symbol of opera tenor, 'My Name is Mimi', which saturates the heart with pure beauty, and 'Musetta's Waltz' with impressive virtuosity. It will be a different experience. 

 

This performance is the 2020 repertoire of the National Opera, and will be conducted by Sebastian Lang Lessing, who frequently collaborated with the National Operas such as <Manon>, <William Tell>, and <The Story of Hoffman>. Top Korean singers such as So-Young Park, Yu-Jin Kim, Ki-Hoon Kim, and Seung-Wang Lee will appear and present a moving moment.

유럽 문화의 중심이었던 19세기 파리, 하지만 그 화려함이 미치지 않는 뒷골목에는 가난하지만 부푼 꿈을 안고 살아가는 젊은 예술가들이 있었다. 이들에게도 찾아온 크리스마스, 유쾌한 청년 시인 로돌포와 아름답고 순박한 미미는 서로 사랑에 빠진다. 너무나 짧고 순수했기에 더욱 아름다웠던 이들의 사랑, 그 유쾌하고도 슬픈 이야기가 펼쳐진다.

 

1893년, 오페라 <마농레스코>로 대성공을 거둔 푸치니는 어떻게 성공을 이어나갈지 고심한다. 결국 그가 선택한 것은 <라 보엠>, 이렇게 모든 오페라 중에 가장 낭만적인 오페라가 탄생했다. 푸치니는 <라 보엠>에서 아직 이상과 순수함을 잃지 않은 젊은 영혼의 세계, 그 찰나의 순간을 아름다운 음악으로 무대에서 펼쳐냈다.

 

<라 보엠>은 그 어느 작품 못지않게 아름다운 아리아가 가득 담겨 있는 오페라이다. 오페라 테너의 상징과도 같은 ‘그대의 찬 손’, 청순한 아름다움이 가슴을 적시는 ‘내 이름은 미미’, 화려한 기교가 인상적인 ‘무제타의 왈츠’ 등 지금까지 수많은 성악가들이 불렀던 노래들을 오페라 안에서 만나는 것은 또 다른 경험이 될 것이다. 

 

이번 공연은 국립오페라단의 2020년 레퍼토리로 국립오페라단 <마농>, <윌리엄 텔>, <호프만의 이야기> 등 국립오페라단과 자주 호흡을 맞춘 세바스티안 랑 레싱이 지휘를 맡고, 서선영, 이윤경, 강요셉, 신상근, 박소영, 김유진, 김기훈, 이승왕 등 국내 정상급 성악가들이 출연하여 감동의 순간을 선사한다.
