Venezia, 3 novembre 1810: l’appena diciottenne Rossini fa il suo debutto nel mondo dell’opera, un mondo che influenzerà profondamente e che lo vedrà protagonista assoluto nei vent’anni successivi. Ad andare in scena è La cambiale di matrimonio, farsa che gioca la sua comicità sullo scontro di generazioni diverse e usanze di paesi lontani e in cui il giovane operista mostra già in modo pieno il suo talento che, da qui in poi, rivoluzionerà il modo di fare teatro comico. A fare da sfondo al più classico degli amori contrastati è, nel nuovo allestimento di Andrea Cigni per la prima assoluta della Cambiale al Teatro Regio, la campagna emiliana degli anni ’20. Nel finale, un coup de théâtre dedicato a uno dei maestri del teatro lirico italiano.
