Ein Ehepaar sitzt gemütlich vor dem häuslichen Kamin. Man stellt fest, dass man in der Nähe von London lebt und Smith heißt. Später kommen noch die Martins hinzu und finden heraus, dass sie miteinander verheiratet sind. Auch der Feuerwehrhauptmann und das Dienstmädchen Mary kennen sich schon und die kahle Sängerin – sie trägt noch immer die gleiche Frisur! »Die kahle Sängerin« ist Eugène Ionescos erstes Theaterstück (1950) und der Auftakt zum ›Theater des Absurden‹. Aus einer Ansammlung häuslicher Szenen voller Nonsens, Situationskomik, Pseudo-Klischees und pointenlosen Anekdoten formt sich ein »Anti-Stück« voller Sprachakrobatik und Witz. Gemeinsam mit Ionesco verfasste der italienische Komponist Luciano Chailly (1920-2002) das Libretto zur gleichnamigen Oper und fing in seiner Komposition den Charakter der Figuren und ihrer Beziehungen mal mit einem Zupfquintett, leicht, eitel und tänzerisch, einem getragenen Streichquintett oder einem eher derb intonierenden Bläserquintett ein. In Semper Zwei ist die 1986 in Wien uraufgeführte Opern-Rarität nun in der Deutschen Erstaufführung zu erleben.

A married couple is sitting comfortably in front of the domestic fireplace. You discover that you live near London and your name is Smith. Later, the Martins arrive and find out that they are married to each other. The fire chief and the maid Mary also know each other and the bald singer - she still has the same hairstyle! »The Bald Singer« is Eugène Ionesco's first play (1950) and the prelude to the ›Theatre of the Absurd‹. From a collection of domestic scenes full of nonsense, situation comedy, pseudo-clichés and pointless anecdotes, an »anti-piece« full of linguistic acrobatics and wit is formed. Together with Ionesco, the Italian composer Luciano Chailly (1920-2002) wrote the libretto for the opera of the same name and in his composition captured the character of the characters and their relationships with a plucked quintet, light, vain and dance-like, a solemn string quintet or a more coarse-toned one wind quintet. In Semper Zwei, the opera rarity, which premiered in Vienna in 1986, can now be experienced in its German premiere.
