The myth of »Cinderella« or »Cinderella« has existed in different variants in Europe, Africa and Asia for centuries. In Germany he will be known to most in the version of the Brothers Grimm. Another important adaptation is Charles Perrault's »Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantouffle de verre« (»Cinderella or the Little Glass Slipper«) from 1697. Here the motif of the glass slipper appears for the first time, which is ultimately decisive for the love between Cinderella and the prince will. The Italian composer Gioacchino Rossini also took up the Cinderella fairy tale with his librettist Jacopo Ferretti in 1817, but made decisive changes: Ferretti replaced the glass slipper with a bracelet. But what is Cinderella without her famous shoe?

Rossini shows: It doesn't necessarily have to be the shoe. Because although Rossini is based on Perrault's »Cendrillon«, his opera is not a fairy tale. Rather, with »La Cenerentola« he ties in with the playful Commedia dell'arte. Carnivalesque, the characters mislead each other through numerous disguises and role changes. It's quite turbulent at times - but there is still room for moments of deep intimacy and poetry, as not only the love scenes between Cinderella Angelina and her prince Don Ramiro show, but also Rossini's brilliant music.
