Emotional chaos reigns at the Podestà court to the power of three – or rather: to the power of seven!

The landlord himself has kept an eye on his gardener Sandrina. In truth, however, this is the Countess Violante Onesti, who, under a false name and inferior status, is in search of her former lover, Count Belfiore. However, Belfiore already believes Violante is dead, fearing that he accidentally killed her in their last argument...

Sandrina is accompanied by her servant Nardo, who has fallen madly in love with the maid Serpetta. Serpetta, on the other hand, has made it his mission to win back the Podestà's attention. Also unhappily in love is Baron Ramiro, who was abandoned by Arminda, the Podestà's niece, in favor of a count. Now Arminda's wedding is imminent - and the groom is... Belfiore! And so finally all the lovers and the desperate meet and the emotional confusion takes its course. Everyone is pretending and everyone is going crazy. But who actually belongs to whom?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was 18 years old when he was commissioned to compose an opera for the Munich carnival in 1775. It is all the more astonishing how radically new and groundbreaking the work of the still young composer seems. Because Mozart masterfully combines tragic and buffonesque scenes. "La finta giardiniera" comes to the stage at the Aalto Theater directed by Czech director and swing singer Ondřej Havelka. The general music director and self-confessed Mozart lover Tomáš Netopil conducts the Essen Philharmonic Orchestra.
