The comic opera "La finta semplice" (The disguised simplicity), which Mozart wrote when he was twelve. At the beginning of 1768, Emperor Joseph II suggested that Mozart should compose an opera and conduct it himself. Marco Coltellini wrote the text based on the comedy of the same name by Carlo Goldoni. However, the planned premiere in Vienna did not take place due to intrigues; Mozart's first opera buffa was probably first performed in Salzburg in 1769.
The plot: The beautiful Giacinta wants to marry the Hungarian captain Fracasso, whose sergeant Simone has a crush on the maid Ninetta. But for this they need the approval of Giacinta's older brothers Cassandro and Polidoro, who are considered downright misogynists. Fracasso's sister, the Baroness Rosina, resorts to a ruse: with feigned simplicity, she wraps Cassandro and Polidoro around her finger and turns them into jealous competitors. After planned seductions, the theft of valuables and a fake escape, there is a happy ending: Rosina decides for Cassandro, Ninetta and Simone stay together, and Giacinta is finally allowed to marry Fracasso - only Polidoro gets nothing.

At the 2006 Salzburg Festival, director and choreographer Joachim Schlömer presented a trilogy entitled "Irrfahrt" with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is intended to show Mozart's compositional career - a paraphrase of the artist's life. The title "Amazing Journeys" points to the false paths, crises and often painful processes of the search that an artist has to go through in order to bring his creative talent to maturity. "La finta semplice" forms the first part of the trilogy.
