The Mona Lisa, premiered in 1876, is Amilcare Ponchielli's most famous opera, which historically appeared between Verdi's Aida and Othello's Othello and is one of the brightest operas of its time. At the heart of Arigo Boyto's libretto is the play "Angelo - the tyrant of Padua" by Victor Hugo, and the music, very interesting in itself, makes a kind of transition from Verdi to Puccini. In the concept of the director and set designer Kuzman Popov is the idea of ​​a theater troupe of street singers, dancers, storytellers. The Mona Lisa herself is a street singer, and Barnabas is a storyteller. A special type is also inserted - masks in the style of Comedy del Arte. The masks woven into the show are involved throughout the action. The sea is present in every scene - real, tragic, black and white ... The sea, a silent witness who measures the eternity of life
