Offrez-vous un voyage en Bohême médiévale. C’est en effet de légendes d’Europe centrale du XIème siècle, plusieurs fois réécrites, que s’est inspiré Eugène Scribe pour écrire le livret de La Nonne sanglante. Ce personnage fantomatique poursuit Rodolphe, qui tente d’échapper aux conflits héréditaires en épousant celle qu’il aime, Agnès, pourtant promise par les familles rivales à son frère aîné. Après Verdi puis Berlioz, qui abandonnèrent le projet, c’est finalement le jeune Gounod (il n’a que 36 ans au moment des représentations) qui s’attelle à la composition de cet opéra en cinq actes.
Violoniste et comédien de formation, Julien Ostinisigne, cinq ans après Faust, la mise en scène de La Nonne sanglante, avec Paul-Emmanuel Thomas à la direction d’orchestre. Le public stéphanois aura la joie de retrouver Florian Laconi, habitué de notre maison, dans le rôle de Rodolphe. Après avoir triomphé la saison dernière dans Hamlet, Jérôme Boutillierre vient à Saint-Étienne pour interpréter Luddorf, père de Rodolphe. Vous découvrirez la jeune soprano franco-américaine Erminie Blondel dans le rôle d’Agnès. Enfin, c’est à la mezzo-soprano Marie Gautrot, déjà entendue dans Faust en 2018 et Otello en 2021, que revient le rôle-titre.
Œuvre très rarement mise en scène, La Nonne sanglante fait la part belle aux duos et aux grands ensembles

This ghostly character pursues Rodolphe, who is trying to escape hereditary conflicts by marrying the one he loves, Agnès, who was promised by rival families to his older brother. After Verdi then Berlioz, who abandoned the project, it was finally the young Gounod (he was only 36 at the time of the performances) who set about composing this opera in five acts.
