Although Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) was under severe time constraints when he composed La Traviata, he managed to create one of his most enduring works. Verdi and Piave saw in Dumas's play The Lady with the Camellias a timeless theme, attractive even for operatic setting. The love story, which revolves around the division between what is socially acceptable and the dictates of the heart, and actualizes the impotence of overcoming social differences, has found a perfect companion for the future in Verdi's characteristic musical language. The music, which echoes the light pulse of salons and ballrooms and which convincingly portrays a person's inner struggles, permeates both her intimate story and the milieu in which it takes place in the drama about an unhappy young Parisian courtesan. Therefore, it is not surprising that La Traviata is thankfully open to a variety of directorial interpretations,

The directorial composition was signed by the famous director of Argentine descent, Hugo de Ana. A director who established himself on the world's most important opera stages (he was a guest at the Rome Opera, the San Carlo Theater in Naples, the German Opera Berlin, the Royal Covent Garden Opera in London, the Opera in Lille, the Royal Theater in Madrid, the Washington Opera, Milan's Scala et al.), crowned his work with regular participation in one of the world's most prestigious opera festivals, the Verona Arena festival, for which he directed the operas Tosca (in 2006) and The Barber of Seville (2007).

The young nobleman Alfredo falls in love with the Parisian courtesan Violetta. The couple decides to live as a couple, bypassing Parisian salons and prejudices. However, the escape from the world is only apparent and short-lived. In their idyllic hideaway in the suburbs of Paris, Violetta is visited by Alfredo's father, who asks her to leave his son to save him from disgrace and allow him to regain his reputation. Violetta realizes that she cannot escape the unfortunate fate of a woman living in the shadow of Parisian high society, and therefore decides to leave Alfredo. However, the decision to fix his situation casts a fatal shadow over her young life...

Čeprav je bil Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) v hudi časovni stiski, ko je skladal Traviato, mu je uspelo ustvariti eno svojih najtrajnejših del. Verdi in Piave sta v Dumasovi drami Dama s kamelijami zagledala brezčasno tematiko, privlačno tudi za operno uglasbitev. Ljubezenska zgodba, ki se vrti okoli razklanosti med družbeno sprejemljivim in narekom srca ter aktualizira nemoč preseganja socialnih razlik, je našla v značilnem Verdijevem glasbenem jeziku popolnega sopotnika za prihodnost. Glasba, v kateri odmeva lahkotni utrip salonov in plesnih dvoran in ki prepričljivo upodablja človekove notranje stiske, je v drami o nesrečni mladi pariški kurtizani prežela tako njeno intimno zgodbo kot milje, v katerem se ta odvija. Zato ne preseneča, da je Traviata hvaležno odprta za mnogovrstne režijske interpretacije, ki se globoko dotaknejo tudi sodobnega človeka.

Režijsko postavitev je podpisal sloviti režiser argentinskega rodu, Hugo de Ana. Režiser, ki se je uveljavil na najpomembnejših svetovnih opernih odrih (bil je gost rimske Opere, gledališča San Carlo iz Neaplja, Nemške opere Berlin, Kraljeve opere Covent Garden iz Londona, Opere iz Lilla, Kraljevega gledališča iz Madrida, opere iz Washingtona, milanske Scale idr.), je svoje delo okronal z rednim sodelovanjem na enem najuglednejših svetovnih opernih festivalov, festivalu v veronski Areni, za katerega je med drugim režiral operi Tosca (leta 2006) in Seviljski brivec (2007).

Mladi plemič Alfredo se zaljubi v pariško kurtizano Violetto. Par se odloči za življenje v dvoje, mimo pariških salonov in predsodkov. Vendar je beg od sveta le navidezen in kratkega diha. V njunem idiličnem skrivališču v predmestju Pariza Violetto obišče Alfredov oče ter jo prosi, naj zapusti njegovega sina – s tem bi ga odrešila sramote in mu omogočila, da bi si povrnil ugled. Violetta spozna, da ne more ubežati nesrečni usodi ženske, ki živi v senci pariške visoke družbe, in zato se odloči, da bo zapustila Alfreda. Vendar vrže odločitev, s katero naj bi popravila njegov položaj, usodno senco na njeno mlado življenje …
