The Pehlivanian Opera Academy Orchestra returns to Laška as part of the "August under the stars" events. After last year's very successful staging of the opera Carmen, the Academy, under the direction of maestro Pehlivanian, will present one of Giuseppe Verdi's most famous operas - La Traviata.

La Traviata, which today is synonymous with one of the most listened to operas, was booed at its beginning by the conservative audience of the Venetian Teatro Fenice at its christening performance in 1853. Success was brought to the opera by staging it a year later. La Traviata was written by Verdi in a month and a half, and the libretto was contributed by the poet Francesco Maria Piave and is an excellent adaptation of The Lady with the Camellias by the famous French writer Alexandre Dumas.

In the controversial content, Verdi put on stage the failed Parisian courtesan Violetta, who was taken over by pure and selfless love - the only value that sets the limits of the courtesan's freedom.

It was first performed in Slovenia in 1867 by a German acting ensemble at the Provincial Theater in Ljubljana.

The performance will be accompanied by the Pehlivanian Opera Academy orchestra - Maestro Georg Pehlivanian's private orchestra, which was assembled especially for his summer academy and consists of the best young Slovenian and foreign orchestral musicians.
