Le nozze di Figaro« is rightly regarded as a prime example of a musical comedy. Together with his librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, the 30-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had created an opera that set new standards - with its vitality, its lightning-fast turns, its multiple trials and tribulations and a music that carries deep sensitivity as well as humour and wit.

With Mozart's three Da Ponte operas, director Vincent Huguet and conductor Daniel Barenboim embark on a journey through time in which the characters evolve and transform. Young people's loves and sorrows come onto the stage in the form of both true and feigned emotions - although in the case of »Figaro«, which forms the second part of this trilogy, these worlds are set in the 80s with their special style and charm. Fast pace and situation comedy come to the fore as well as thoughtfulness and melancholy. The immense art of differentiation, as it is so vividly shown in Mozart's marvelous work, will also be reflected in the musical and scenic presentation.

»Le nozze di Figaro« gilt mit Recht als Musterbeispiel einer musikalischen Komödie. Gemeinsam mit seinem Librettisten Lorenzo Da Ponte war dem 30-jährigen Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart eine Oper gelungen, die neue Maßstäbe setzte – mit ihrer Vitalität, ihren blitzschnellen Umschwüngen, ihren vielfachen Irrungen und Wirrungen und einer Musik, die tiefe Empfindsamkeit ebenso in sich trägt wie Humor und Esprit.

Mit den drei Da-Ponte-Opern Mozarts begeben sich Regisseur Vincent Huguet und Dirigent Daniel Barenboim auf eine Reise durch die Zeit, indem sich die Figuren weiterentwickeln und verwandeln. Lieben und Leiden junger Menschen in Gestalt von wahren wie vorgetäuschten Emotionen kommen auf die Bühne – wobei im Falle des »Figaro«, der den zweiten Teil dieser Trilogie bildet, diese Lebenswelten in den 80er Jahren mit ihrem speziellen Stil und Charme angesiedelt sind. Temporeichtum und Situationskomik gelangen dabei ebenso zum Vorschein wie Nachdenklichkeit und Melancholie. Die immense Differenzierungskunst, wie sie sich in Mozarts Wunderwerk so eindringlich zeigt, wird sich auch in der musikalischen und szenischen Darstellung widerspiegeln. Mit »Così fan tutte« und »Don Giovanni« kommen dann in der Saison 2021/22 die beiden anderen Da-Ponte-Opern auf die Bühne, als Teil 1 und 3 dieser eigens für die Staatsoper konzipierten Trilogie.
