Teaser LES NOCES DE FIGARO "Marriage Of Figaro"

surtitled in French This opera is the first of three works resulting from the collaboration between Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte, the other two being Don Giovanni and Così fan tutte. A libretto in Italian after a French play set in Spain, set to music by Mozart, an early Austrian and European composer, Le Nozze di Figaro are adapted from the Marriage of Figaro, the comedy by Beaumarchais, triumphantly premiered in 1784. It was Mozart who, with the approval of Emperor Joseph II, proposed the text to Lorenzo da Ponte who made it into a libretto, while also erasing from the libretto all the political references of the original. In the castle of Aguas-Frescas near Seville, the social order is faltering. Amorous desires shake up the hierarchy and power conflicts erupt. The Rosine of the Barber of Seville has now become the Countess Almaviva. Her fickle husband pursues, among others, the maid of his wife, Susanna, who is to marry Figaro who entered the service of the count but also the daughter of his gardener, little Barbarina. He was, however, in competition with the young page Cherubino, who hunts down all the women of his diligence and in particular the countess, his godmother. For her part, old Marcellina, helped by Doctor Bartolo and the music master Basilio, wants to prevent the wedding of Suzanne and Figaro, because the latter made her a promise of marriage ... Through the humor of situations and misunderstandings, the rhythm of the libretto and the perfection of the orchestral writing, Le Nozze di Figaro are one of the most perfect examples of the successful marriage between poetry and music.
