Le Voyage dans la lune J  Offenbach - Théâtre Impérial

After the success of the novels of Jules Verne, Offenbach receives a triumph during the creation of his opera-fairy. He offers us irresistible music with this lunar comedy that is as hilarious as it is poetic.

King Vlan gives in to his son Prince Caprice's desire to go to the Moon. With the learned Microscope, they go to the unknown star aboard a shell launched by a cannon and then experience astonishing adventures... With Offenbach, comedy is mixed with satire: each inhabitant, whether from the Earth or the Moon, evolves in its system and intends to keep it that way. Bringing this book back to life also means showing how much this Voyage makes fun of our society. Le Voyage dans la Lune also saw the light of day when special effects theater was invented.

Relying on these fictitious effects today gives the fantastic a chance: Méliès is not far away, and with him the desire to experience the filming of  Voyage dans la Lune live from a film studio which manufactures illusions under our eyes, to better pay homage to the infinite power of the imagination. The soloists, dancer-acrobats, chorus and orchestra of the Opéra de Limoges bring life back to life, under the musical direction of Pierre Dumoussaud and staged by Olivier Fredj, to a journey that denounces vanity for better laugh about it.
