Soprano Jodie Devos and tenor Cyrille Dubois present their roles in L'Elisir d'amore by Gaetano Donizetti, in which they will make their debut on January 15, 2022 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and from this "romantic comedy" to the score twirling and with finely chiseled characters.

Labeled opera buffa, The Elixir of Love has long been Donizetti's most popular opera thanks to an almost continuous flow of enchanting melodies. He summons the required "buffoon" in the person of the charlatan Dulcamara, who in one tune achieves the feat of bringing together the maximum number of words in the minimum number of notes! But the plot of L'ElixirLyricism also shines when Nemorino resorts to magic in the hope of winning the heart of the rich and fickle Adina. The languid arias of the tenor contrast with the mischievous ones of the soprano. And like all great stories, it all ends well and they both sail towards happiness. Rossini's buffoonish verve is never far away, but already points to all the lyricism of romanticism to come. The facetious Nicola Ulivieri here puts on the clothes of the charlatan while cooing towards happy days Jodie Devos and Cyrille Dubois.

Étiqueté opera buffa, L’Elixir d’amour a longtemps été l’opéra le plus populaire de Donizetti grâce à un enchaînement presque continu de mélodies enchanteresses. Il convoque le « bouffon » requis en la personne du charlatan Dulcamara, qui dans un seul air réussit la prouesse de réunir le maximum de mots en un minimum de notes ! Mais l’intrigue de L’Elixir fait aussi la part belle au lyrisme quand Nemorino recourt à la magie dans l’espoir de gagner le cœur de la riche et volage Adina. Les arias languissants du ténor contrastent alors avec ceux espiègles de la soprano. Et comme toutes les belles histoires, tout cela finit bien et tous deux voguent vers le bonheur. La verve bouffonne de Rossini n’est jamais loin mais déjà pointe tout le lyrisme du romantisme à venir. Le facétieux Nicola Ulivieri endosse ici les habits du charlatan tandis que roucoulent vers des jours heureux Jodie Devos et Cyrille Dubois.
