“A cheeky, brightly colored production that offers a lot to laugh about, but never slips into your clothes.” “This is how comic opera works today”. “Entirely in the spirit of the virtuosity of the light”, that was the hymnal reviews after the premiere. The successful production from 2014 is now being resumed.

Nemorino, who loves Adina, lives in the country. As is so often the case, it's about the money - at least he doesn't have it. So love remains unrequited. Instead, Adina throws herself into the arms of the dashing, financially strong Belcore. But then Nemorino comes up with an idea: How about a remedy from a serious opera, a love potion à la Tristan and Isolde? Said, bought from quack Dulcamara. A love potion to drink yourself. Put it in. Nothing happens. Adina doesn't look at him. So: more of it. And now? The entire world of women in the place is drawn to Nemorino. Whether this is due to the Elixir or the news that Nemorinos will inherit his recently deceased uncle, who knows? In any case, nothing stands in the way of a quick happy ending.

Donizetti is lavish with his means: beautiful singing, melting, coloratura, pearly tones, virtuosity, a festival of singers. Donizetti's easy comedy is Belcanto at its best. And with Marysol Schalit as Adina and Hyojong Kim as Nemorino in the main roles, one of Theater Bremen's favorite lovers is part of its core repertoire. There are also some role debuts: Elias Gyungseok Han is the smart Belcore, Stephen Clark is the sleazy street vendor Dulcamara, and Mariam Murgulia is Adina's scheming friend. And Alice Meregaglia is at the desk. Almost a small premiere, in which a newly assembled house ensemble celebrates the power of comedy.
