L’intrigue évolue entre grotesque et dignité, tragicomiques et sentimentalités, entre colère et pardon. Dans le cours d’une dernière nuit, on découvre Léonora, au chevet de son père mourant. Elle veille et écoute cet ancien capitaine des chasseurs, vieil homme animé par de difficiles souvenirs de la Guerre d’Algérie.

 

Entre réminiscences de l’enfance de son père et de la sienne, du mariage raté du capitaine et de sa solitude à elle, Léonora se rappelle sa soeur Marina, sa mère italienne, chanteuse à l’Opéra comique, sa grand-mère, aristocrate parisienne et leurs étranges relations. Elle rencontrera, dans le petit matin, un cousin, jusqu’alors inconnu, qui révélera les affabulations risibles du capitaine et sa vilenie calculatrice, juste avant qu’il ne rende son dernier souffle.


La profonde déception de Léonora, qui avait toujours aimé son papa, ne l’empêchera pas d’accorder son pardon au militaire pathétique et paternel dans une ultime tentative de réconciliation, hélas ! tardive.

The plot evolves between grotesque and dignity, tragicomic and sentimentality, between anger and forgiveness. During one last night, we discover Léonora at the bedside of her dying father. She watches and listens to this former captain of the hunters, an old man driven by difficult memories of the Algerian War.

 

Between reminiscences of her father's childhood and her own, of the captain's failed marriage and her own solitude, Léonora remembers her sister Marina, her Italian mother, singer at the Comic Opera, her grandmother, aristocrat Parisian woman and their strange relationships. In the early morning she will meet a cousin, previously unknown, who will reveal the captain's laughable fabrications and his calculating villainy, just before he takes his last breath.


The deep disappointment of Léonora, who had always loved her dad, will not prevent her from granting her forgiveness to the pathetic and paternal soldier in a final attempt at reconciliation, alas! late.
