Hoffmann’s Tales is a magical, unfinished opera that allows countless interpretations and variations for both the director and the conductor. It is a fragmented work that shows different worlds, ages, social classes, mystics, love affairs, but most of all the inner world, demons and desires of a creative artist. An artist is usually run by some kind of shortage. Hence the compulsion to communicate. Try to fill the space created by this shortage with creation, daydreams and fantasy. But it’s like the kind of thirst that no kind of drink can swallow.

The artist actually loves love, loves it, seeks it, and sees this dream in so many different women, female figures, muse, but his love always remains dissatisfied, the lack is eternal longing.

This piece is condensed into an amazing variety of life situations. It is as if parallel universes are opening where we can look into different life possibilities.

The sheet music at that time had a unique inscription: Opéra Fantastique, meaning fantastic opera. And if we sit down for a Hoffmann performance anywhere in the world today, we will surely be surprised, as there are no two opera houses where the same opera would be performed. Maybe it will be Miskolc: the real thing.

A Hoffmann meséi egy varázslatos, befejezetlen opera, amely számtalan értelmezési lehetőséget és variációt enged rendezőnek, karmesternek egyaránt. Egy töredezett, többféle világot, kort, társadalmi osztályt, misztikumot, szerelmi viszonyt, de legfőképp egy alkotó-művész belső világát, démonjait, vágyait megmutató mű. Egy művészt általában valamiféle hiány működtet. Ebből fakad közlési kényszere. E hiány által teremtett űrt próbálja meg alkotással, ábrándokkal, fantáziával betömködni. De olyan ez, mint az a fajta szomjúság, amit semmilyen féle ital nem tud elapasztani.
