THE PEARL FISHERS

With The Pearl Fishers , the then 24-year-old Bizet signed an ambitious work that foreshadowed Carmen in many respects. Skillfully blending French lyricism and Oriental exoticism then very fashionable, this score sings of the love between Nadir and Leila on the island of Ceylon and explores the themes of friendship, jealousy and redemption. This production directed by Yoshi Oïda is conducted by Paul Daniel, musical director of the Orchester National Bordeaux Aquitaine.
