From the Komische Oper Berlin, the Swedish soprano Maria Bengtsson started a career that has taken her to all the major opera houses in the world in recent years. From 2002 to 2007 Maria Bengtsson was a member of the ensemble in the house on Behrenstrasse. Here she could be seen as Marie in The Bartered Bride , as Pamina in The Magic Flute or as Zerlina in Don Giovanni . She was celebrated as Constanze in Calixto Bieito's much-discussed production of The Abduction from the Seraglio and as Countess in The Marriage of Figaro , directed by Barrie Kosky, both productions under the direction of Kyrill Petrenko.

Actually, the new production of Leoš Janáček's Katja Kabanova , which was planned to open the 2020/21 seasonbring a long-awaited reunion with Maria Bengtsson. Now she is returning to her former place of work with an unscheduled recital. Accompanied by the French pianist Sarah Tysman, in the first part she presents songs from the pen of three Scandinavian composers: In addition to the six songs op.48 by Edvard Grieg, which are based on poems by German poets such as Goethe or Heine, there are several songs composed on poems in Swedish by the Finn Jean Sibelius and songs by her fellow countryman Ture Rangström, who is less well known in this country, and the most important Swedish composer in the field of song. In the second part of the concert, Maria Bengtsson then comes up with works by two German-speaking masters of the song: Franz Schubert and Richard Strauss, including such well-known compositions as "Gretchen am Spinnrad", "Ständchen" or "Morgen".
