Formatosi alla grande scuola pianistica di Maria Tipo, Andrea Lucchesini s’impone all'attenzione internazionale giovanissimo, con la vittoria del Concorso Internazionale “Dino Ciani” presso il Teatro alla Scala di Milano. Suona da allora in tutto il mondo con orchestre prestigiose ed i più grandi direttori, suscitando l’entusiasmo del pubblico per la combinazione tra solidità di impianto formale nelle sue esecuzioni, estrema cura del suono, raffinatezza timbrica e naturale capacità comunicativa.
La sua ampia attività, contrassegnata dal desiderio di esplorare la musica senza limitazioni, lo vede proporre programmi che spaziano dal repertorio classico a quello contemporaneo, proposto sia in concerto sia in numerose registrazioni in disco, dalle giovanili incisioni per EMI (Sonata in si minore di Liszt, Sonata op. 106 “Hammerklavier” di Beethoven, Sonata op. 58 e Preludi op. 28 di Chopin) fino alla festeggiatissima integrale live delle 32 Sonate di Beethoven (Stradivarius), mentre con Giuseppe Sinopoli e la Staatskapelle di Dresda ha inciso per Teldec due capolavori del ‘900 come Pierrot lunaire di Arnold Schönberg ed il Kammerkonzert di Alban Berg.
Appassionato camerista, collabora regolarmente con artisti di grande prestigio: in duo con il violoncellista Mario Brunello ha inciso l’integrale dell’opera beethoveniana, le Sonate di Brahms, ed inoltre composizioni di Chopin, Schumann, Schubert e Lekeu. Con il Quartetto di Cremona ha registrato nel 2016 per AUDITE il Quintetto op. 14 di Saint-Saëns, mentre recentissima è l’incisione live della Fantasia Corale di Beethoven, con Fabio Luisi alla testa di Orchestra e Coro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Negli ultimi anni Lucchesini si è immerso con entusiasmo nel repertorio schubertiano, a partire dalla registrazione degli Improvvisi, in un cd AVIE Records accolto dal plauso della critica internazionale; accostata ai Canti di Giacomo Leopardi letti da Giuseppe Cederna, la musica di Schubert si è arricchita di suggestioni poetiche, mentre la narrazione di Sandro Cappelletto ha delicatamente contrappuntato l’esecuzione delle ultime tre Sonate in un’unica serata.
Per BMG ha inciso il Concerto II “Echoing curves” di Luciano Berio sotto la direzione dell’Autore: questa registrazione segna una delle tappe fondamentali di una stretta collaborazione con Berio, accanto al quale Lucchesini vede nascere Sonata (l'ultimo ed impegnativo lavoro del compositore italiano per pianoforte solo), eseguita in prima mondiale nel 2001 e successivamente consegnata – con tutte le altre opere pianistiche di Berio - ad un disco AVIE Records divenuto rapidamente edizione di riferimento.
Convinto che la trasmissione del sapere musicale alle giovani generazioni sia un dovere morale, Lucchesini si dedica con passione anche all’insegnamento, attualmente presso la Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, di cui è stato fino al 2016 direttore artistico. Tiene inoltre frequenti masterclass presso importanti istituzioni musicali italiane ed europee, tra cui il Mozarteum di Salisburgo, ed è frequentemente invitato nella giuria dei più importanti concorsi internazionali, oltre a far parte dal 2008 degli Accademici di S. Cecilia.
Nel 2017 ha ideato per gli Amici della Musica di Firenze il progetto artistico Fortissimissimo Firenze Festival, con l’obiettivo di dare spazio – anche attraverso nuove modalità organizzative - ai giovanissimi talenti italiani.
Recentissima la sua nomina alla direzione artistica dell’Accademia Filarmonica Romana.

Trained at the great piano school of Maria Tipo, Andrea Lucchesini gained international attention at a very young age, with victory in the "Dino Ciani" International Competition at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Since then he has played all over the world with prestigious orchestras and the greatest conductors, arousing the enthusiasm of the public for the combination of solidity of formal structure in his performances, extreme attention to sound, timbre refinement and natural communicative ability.
His extensive activity, marked by the desire to explore music without limitations, sees him proposing programs ranging from the classical to the contemporary repertoire, offered both in concert and in numerous recordings on disk, from his early recordings for EMI (Sonata in B minor by Liszt, Sonata op. 106 "Hammerklavier" by Beethoven, Sonata op. 58 and Preludes op. 28 by Chopin) up to the highly celebrated complete live performance of Beethoven's 32 Sonatas (Stradivarius), while with Giuseppe Sinopoli and the Dresden Staatskapelle he recorded for Teldec two 20th century masterpieces such as Arnold Schönberg's Pierrot lunaire and Alban Berg's Kammerkonzert.
A passionate chamber musician, he regularly collaborates with artists of great prestige: in duo with the cellist Mario Brunello he has recorded the entire Beethovenian work, the Brahms Sonatas, and also compositions by Chopin, Schumann, Schubert and Lekeu. With the Cremona Quartet he recorded in 2016 for AUDITE the Quintet op. 14 by Saint-Saëns, while very recent is the live recording of Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, with Fabio Luisi at the head of the Orchestra and Chorus of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
In recent years Lucchesini has enthusiastically immersed himself in the Schubert repertoire, starting with the recording of the Improvvisi, in an AVIE Records cd received by international critical acclaim; combined with Giacomo Leopardi's Cantos read by Giuseppe Cederna, Schubert's music was enriched with poetic suggestions, while Sandro Cappelletto's narration delicately counterpointed the performance of the last three Sonatas in a single evening.
For BMG he recorded the Concerto II "Echoing curves" by Luciano Berio under the direction of the composer: this recording marks one of the fundamental stages of a close collaboration with Berio, alongside which Lucchesini sees the birth of Sonata (the last and demanding work of the Italian composer for solo piano), performed in world premiere in 2001 and subsequently delivered - with all the other piano works by Berio - on an AVIE Records disc which quickly became a reference edition.
Convinced that the transmission of musical knowledge to the younger generations is a moral duty, Lucchesini is also passionately dedicated to teaching, currently at the Fiesole Music School, of which he was artistic director until 2016. He also holds frequent masterclasses at important Italian and European musical institutions, including the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and is frequently invited to the jury of the most important international competitions, as well as being a member of the Accademici di S. Cecilia since 2008.
In 2017 he created the artistic project Fortissimissimo Firenze Festival for the Friends of Music of Florence, with the aim of giving space - also through new organizational methods - to very young Italian talents.
His appointment to the artistic direction of the Roman Philharmonic Academy is very recent.
