Chef-dirigent Lorenzo Viotti dirigeert de geliefde Symfonie nr. 1 van Sibelius. Violist Augustin Hadelich, die eerder artist-in-residence van het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest was, keert terug met Bartóks krachtige Vioolconcert nr. 2.

Jean Sibelius werd geboren in een land zonder noemenswaardige muziekcultuur en stierf bijna 92 jaar later in een rijk muziekland, dat hij grotendeels zelf had vormgegeven. Geïnspireerd door de natuur, de dichtkunst en de volksmuziek gaf hij Finland een stem. Maar met zijn symfonieën ging Sibelius nog een stap verder. Die behoren namelijk tot de meest originele sinds Beethoven. Neem zijn Symfonie nr. 1: een natuurkracht zonder weerga, die ons direct een nieuwe wereld intrekt en tegelijkertijd prachtig, spannend en vertrouwd klinkt.

Augustin Hadelich speelt Bartóks Vioolconcert nr. 2
De Grammy Award winnende violist Augustin Hadelich was in seizoen 2014/2015 artist-in-residence bij het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest. Nu is hij terug met Bartóks krachtige Vioolconcert nr. 2: een scherpe aanklacht tegen het fascisme. Dit vioolconcert, dat in 1939 zijn wereldpremière beleefde in Het Concertgebouw, is tegelijkertijd modern en zeer aangrijpend: het tweede deel is van een bijna pijnlijke schoonheid.

Augustin Hadelich plays Bartók's Violin Concerto No. 2
The Grammy Award winning violinist Augustin Hadelich was artist-in-residence with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2014/2015 season. Now he is back with Bartók's powerful Violin Concerto No. 2 : a sharp indictment of fascism. This violin concerto, which had its world premiere in The Concertgebouw in 1939, is modern and very poignant at the same time: the second movement is of an almost painful beauty.
