Claudio Monteverdi's L'Orfeo in "Im Wizemann" is an Orpheus installation, an opera parcours that leads through different visual and audio worlds. While the portal and orchestra pit in the opera house separate stage and auditorium from one another, just as the world of the living and the world of the dead are separated by a gate and rivers of the underworld such as the Styx or Lethe, this separation is abolished by and in L'Orfeo : we are all in Movement and we can get as close to each other as we rarely do in an opera performance. Accordingly, the staging follows the logic of the space more than the logic of the work, it tells L'Orfeo site-specifically.
L'Orfeois not only a love story, but above all a story about art. The music itself opens and, as Euridice and Proserpina, leads through an evening about how Orfeo came to his art. Who is telling about whom? Orfeo from the music or the music of Orfeo? As is so often the case in art and literature, looking in the mirror throws back not just one image, but several at the same time, because we all look in the mirror from our own perspective. And so the spectators and followers also become Orfeo. His look back becomes our look in the mirror, which primarily reflects us back on ourselves.

Claudio Monteverdis L’Orfeo im „Im Wizemann“ ist eine Orpheus-Installation, ein Opern-Parcours, der durch verschiedene Seh- und Hörwelten führt. Während im Opernhaus Portal und Orchestergraben Bühne und Zuschauerraum voneinander trennen, wie die Welt der Lebenden und die Welt der Toten durch ein Tor und Unterweltflüsse wie Styx oder Lethe voneinander getrennt sind, wird diese Trennung durch und in L’Orfeo aufgehoben: Wir alle sind in Bewegung und können uns gegenseitig so nahekommen, wie sonst kaum in einer Opernaufführung. Die Inszenierung folgt dementsprechend mehr der Logik des Raumes als der Logik des Werks, sie erzählt L’Orfeo ortsspezifisch.
L’Orfeo ist nicht nur eine Liebesgeschichte, sondern vor allem auch eine Geschichte über die Kunst. Die Musik selbst eröffnet und führt als Euridice und Proserpina durch einen Abend, in dem es darum geht, wie Orfeo zu seiner Kunst kommt. Wer erzählt von wem? Orfeo von der Musik oder die Musik von Orfeo? Der Blick in den Spiegel wirft – wie so oft in Kunst und Literatur – nicht nur ein Bild zurück, sondern gleich mehrere, weil auch wir alle aus einem jeweils eigenen Blickwinkel in den Spiegel schauen. Und so werden die Zuschauenden und Mitlaufenden ebenfalls zu Orfeo. Sein Blick zurück wird unser Blick in den Spiegel, der uns vor allem auf uns selbst zurückwirft.
