The premiere of "Lucia di Lammermoor" took place in 1835 in Neapolitan San Carlo. In addition to his interest in Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor - by then more than once adapted for opera - the composer Donizetti had a personal interest in the plot: one of his ancestors, Donald Isett, was a Scot.

Despite the dizzying difficulties for the performers, or perhaps precisely because of them, this work by Donizetti is one of the most repertory in the world. The first Lucia was the beautiful Fanny Tacchinardi-Persiani. In the 19th and 20th centuries, all the legendary opera divas shone in this part: Adeline Patti, Lily Pons, Joan Sutherland, Maria Callas, Beverly Sills, Renata Scotto, Edita Gruberova. The heights of sky-high coloratura of Donizetti's heroine are also stormed by prima donnas of the 21st century. Their fame is also sought to be shared by the tenors, for whom the composer reserved extremely high notes by the end of the opera.

Lucia di Lammermoor has everything that is expected from opera classics: wonderful, instantly memorable melodies, passionate love and equally passionate hatred against the backdrop of an old Scottish castle, a luxurious opera prima donna and a tenor in love with her.

Премьера «Лючии ди Ламмермур» состоялась в 1835 году в неаполитанском Сан-Карло. Помимо интереса к роману Вальтера Скотта «Ламмермурская невеста» – к тому времени не раз приспособленного к опере – у композитора Доницетти был личный интерес к сюжету: один из его предков, Доналд Айзетт, был шотландцем.

Несмотря на головокружительные трудности для исполнителей, а может быть, именно благодаря им, это сочинение Доницетти – одно из самых репертуарных в мире. Первой Лючией была красавица Фанни Таккинарди-Персиани.
