Torna dopo 25 anni a Sassari Macbeth, di Giuseppe Verdi. Il dramma - riassunto dell'intenso lavoro shakespeariano - racconta della violenta ascesa al trono di Scozia di Macbeth, spinto dalla moglie a tremendi delitti pur di conquistare il potere, e del tragico destino che colpirà entrambi, sullo sfondo delle profezie di una strega. L'opera debuttò con successo alla Scala di Milano nel 1847. Dopo un periodo di silenzio, venne recuperata in Italia nella seconda metà del Novecento. A Sassari la prima rappresentazione che le cronache riportano risale al 1868; dieci anni dopo se ne allestì un'altra ma, per la terza edizione, i sassaresi dovettero aspettare oltre un secolo, fino al 1984. Nell'edizione del 2009 padroneggiò la scena il soprano sardo Paoletta Marrocu (Lady Macbeth), diretta poco tempo prima, nello stesso ruolo, da Riccardo Muti alla Scala di Milano.

Macbeth returns to Sassari after 25 years, by Giuseppe Verdi. The drama - a summary of the intense Shakespearean work - tells of Macbeth's violent rise to the throne of Scotland, pushed by his wife to terrible crimes in order to conquer power, and of the tragic fate that will strike both, against the backdrop of the prophecies of a witch. The work debuted successfully at La Scala in Milan in 1847. After a period of silence, it was recovered in Italy in the second half of the twentieth century. In Sassari the first representation that the chronicles report dates back to 1868; ten years later another one was set up but, for the third edition, the Sassari people had to wait over a century, until 1984. In the 2009 edition, the scene was mastered by the Sardinian soprano Paoletta Marrocu (Lady Macbeth), conducted shortly before , in the same role, by Riccardo Muti at the Scala in Milan.
