Stephen Sondheim's chamber play-like musical tells an everyday story. Two young people, lost in the big city, spend Saturdays in their respective apartments, as is so often the case. They clear, work or dream around their four walls and although they live next door to each other, they do not come closer. Both lack the courage to step into reality. After an unsuccessful appointment, the two come to the conclusion that “it shouldn't have been”.

The music by Sondheim, one of the most famous musical composers of all, lets the audience participate in the feelings of the two, in their fantasies and desires, and in their indissoluble dream of a different, richer and more eventful life.
