Join us on Zoom for the launch of Opera Rara’s latest recording, Mercadante’s Il proscritto. Opera Rara’s Artistic Director is joined by members of the cast on the eve of the recording’s worldwide release. Enjoy a first listen to selections of the recording, the first ever recording of this once-thought-lost opera, and hear about the process of bringing this opera back to life after nearly 200 years since it was last heard.

Set near Edinburgh in the first half of the 17th century, Il proscritto (1848) weaves a tragic tale of lost love and political treachery during the rule of Oliver Cromwell. Available for the first time on recording, Il proscritto marks Mercadante’s return to the bel canto lyricism while retaining the harmonic and orchestra richness found in his “reform” operas.
