Michele Mariotti caused a stir in the Netherlands with his Saturday Matine rendition of Rossini's Semiramide. In this concert he presents his brilliant Stabat Mater.



Rossini at the opera

Rossini wrote his first opera when he was eighteen, and dropped out at thirty-seven. Nineteen years in which he produced 39 operas. He retired at the height of his fame as a wealthy man with serious health problems. Yet between 1831 and 1842 a great religious work came out of his pen by trial and error: the Stabat Mater, a genius creation that is considered to be one of the pinnacles of his oeuvre.



Beethoven 's Tenth Symphony

Beethoven's friend and devil fighter Karl Holz says: "Beethoven played the entire Tenth Symphony . He had sketches for all parts, sketches that, however, were not decipherable by anyone." British musicologist Barry Cooper tried. In 1988 he came up with an elaborated version of the first movement: "if only to show what Beethoven left behind in sketch." Exciting!
