Pletnev Plays Schumann, azaz Pletnyov Schumannt játszik - ezzel a címmel jelentette meg az arhangelszki születésű művész 2004-es szólólemezét a Deutsche Grammophon, s ez a produkció áll majd e koncert középpontjában is, hiszen karmesteri szerepléseit követően a Concerto Budapest egyik legkedvesebb partneréhez ez alkalommal az a-moll zongoraverseny szólistájaként lehet majd szerencsénk.

A műsor egyebekben is a romantika sűrűjébe kalauzolja a közönséget, hiszen a nyitószám éppenséggel a Trisztán és Izolda előjátéka lesz, melyet Wagner így magyarázott: „[a szerző] csak egyszer, de hosszú, tagolt áradással bontotta ki a kielégíthetetlen vágyat, a gyengéd vonzódás félénk vallomásától, félő sóhajokon, reményen és tétovázáson, panaszon és kívánságon, mámoron és kínlódáson át a hatalmas kitörés óriási erőfeszítéséig, mely megnyitná a határtalanul vágyódó szívnek a végtelen szerelmi mámor tengeréhez vezető utat… Hiába! A szív tehetetlenül visszahanyatlik, és vágyban eped el…" A Baráti Kristófot karmesterként köszöntő koncert második részében azután César Franck oly népszerű, 1888-ban befejezett d-moll szimfóniája hangzik majd el.

Pletnev Plays Schumann: this is the title of the Arkhangelsk-born artist's 2004 solo album released on the Deutsche Grammophon label, as well as the focus of this concert, since after his appearance taking up the baton with them, Pletnev, one of Concerto Budapest's favourite partners will this time treat the fortunate audience to his skills as a soloist in the A minor piano concerto.

The programme also leads the audience into the thick of Romanticism, as the opening number consists of the prelude to Tristan und Isolde, of which Wagner said, "[the composer] lets insatiable longing well up one time only, but in a long-drawn-out progression, from timid avowal, the gentlest attraction, through hesitant sighs, hopes and fears, laments and wishes, joys and torments, up to the mightiest compulsion, the most powerful effort to discover a breach, opening for the heart the way to the sea of endless rapturous love. In vain! Its power spent, the heart sinks back to pine of its desire...” In the second part of this concert welcoming Kristóf Baráti to the conductor's podium, we will hear César Franck's highly popular Symphony in D minor from 1888.
