The extremely dramatic circumstances that surrounded the creation of Mozart's very last work have only intensified the fascination of this luminous gem in the repertoire. Mozart lay on his deathbed struggling against time to complete his commissioned work for a mysterious count who wanted to portray the work as his own, and one can hardly comprehend the quality of what he managed to get scribbled down in the last weeks of his everything for short lives. Come and hear 300 high school students make Mozart's swan song come alive with the Olympics at a concert that also features living geniuses: John Williams, who has been immortalized for his iconic film music for i.a. Star Wars, Harry Potter and Indiana Jones offer something as rare as a tuba concert, and of course our own virtuoso tubaist, Carl Boye Hansen, is naturally at the center. Perhaps the greatest living star of American music life, Philip Glass, delighted the audience to such an extent last season with his double concerto for cello and violin. Here, his warmly swinging Harmonium Mountain stands side by side with Williams' heartbreaking theme to Schindler's List.
