Robert Schumann und Richard Wagner mochten sich nicht besonders. Zwar traf sie sich mehrmals in Dresden. Trotzdem haderte der eine mit der Musik des anderen. Was gerade bei Wagner in dem abschätzigen Urteil gipfelte: »Wie es Schumannianer geben kann, ist mir unbegreiflich.« Noch ratloser wäre Wagner wohl gewesen, wenn er jetzt – wie im Fall des Programms der Münchner Philharmoniker – hätte erkennen müssen, dass selbst ein ausgewiesenes Wagner- auch ein mitreißendes Schumann-Orchester sein kann.

Unter der Leitung des Schweizer Gastdirigenten Philippe Jordan widmet sich das bayerische Weltklasseorchester nun also diesen beiden romantischen Antipoden – mit Schumanns 1851 in Düsseldorf uraufgeführter Dritter Sinfonie sowie Szenen aus Wagners »Götterdämmerung«. Und in der Partie der Brünnhilde ist die gefeierte finnische Wagner-Sirene Camilla Nylund zu erleben – die übrigens auch eine großartige Schumann-Interpretin ist.

Robert Schumann and Richard Wagner didn't like each other very much. True, she met several times in Dresden. Nevertheless, one quarreled with the music of the other. What culminated in Wagner’s disparaging judgment: “I can’t understand how there can be Schumannians.” Wagner would have been even more at a loss if – as in the case of the Munich Philharmonic’s program – he had had to recognize that even a proven Wagner - can also be a rousing Schumann orchestra.

Under the direction of Swiss guest conductor Philippe Jordan, the world-class Bavarian orchestra is now devoting itself to these two romantic antipodes – with Schumann's Third Symphony, which premiered in Düsseldorf in 1851, and scenes from Wagner's »Götterdämmerung«. And in the role of Brünnhilde, the celebrated Finnish Wagner siren Camilla Nylund can be experienced - who, by the way, is also a great interpreter of Schumann.
