Für den Komponisten, Klarinettisten und Dirigenten Jörg Widmann gehört Felix Mendelssohn zu den Großen der Musik. Dabei sieht er Parallelen zum eigenen Schaffen, durch eine gemeinsame »Lust am Tempo, an Instrumentalfarben, an raschen Stimmungswechseln auf engstem Raum«. Von dieser künstlerischen Verwandtschaft kann man sich nun überzeugen. Widmann dirigiert Mendelssohns festliche »Reformations-Symphonie« und stellt drei eigene Werke vor: seine mit Motiven Beethovens spielende Ouvertüre Con brio, seine virtuose Fantasie für Klarinette und das Zweite Violinkonzert mit seiner Schwester Carolin Widmann als Solistin.

For the composer, clarinettist and conductor Jörg Widmann, Felix Mendelssohn is one of the greats of music. In doing so, he sees parallels to his own work, through a common “joy for tempo, for instrumental colors, for rapid mood changes in a confined space”. You can now convince yourself of this artistic relationship. Widmann conducts Mendelssohn's festive "Reformation Symphony" and presents three of his own works: his overture Con brio , which plays on motifs from Beethoven , his virtuoso Fantasy for clarinet and the Second Violin Concerto with his sister Carolin Widmann as the soloist.
