”Nabucco” este o operă compusă de Giuseppe Verdi în 1841 pe un libret de Temistocle Solera. Premiera a avut loc la Teatro alla Scala („Scala”) din Milano la 9 martie 1842. Nabucco este prescurtarea numelui regelui asirian al Babilonului Nabucodonosor al doilea (în original: Nebucadnețar), care a trăit și domnit în jurul anului 600 î.Hr. Cele două teme principale ale acțiunii sunt dorința de libertate a poporului evreu din timpul robiei lor din Babilon, precum și aroganța și nebunia personajului principal Nabucco, care-l duce până la autoproclamarea sa drept Dumnezeu unic și la pedepsirea cu pierderea minților. Spre sfârșitul operei el însă își revine, adoptă credința în Iehova (sau Iahve), Dumnezeul evreilor, și elibrerează pe evrei din robie.

"Nabucco" is an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi in 1841 on a libretto by Temistocle Solera. The premiere took place at the Teatro alla Scala ("Scala") in Milan on March 9, 1842. Nabucco is the abbreviation of the name of the Assyrian king of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar II (originally: Nebuchadnezzar), who lived and ruled around 600 BC . The two main themes of the action are the desire for freedom of the Jewish people during their captivity in Babylon, as well as the arrogance and madness of the main character Nabucco, which leads him to his self-proclamation as the only God and the punishment of losing his mind. Towards the end of the work, however, he recovers, adopts faith in Jehovah (or Yahweh), the God of the Jews, and frees the Jews from slavery.
