As surprising as it is, Nabucco was barely played at the Metropolitan for a long time, until Elijah Moshinsky's 2001 production finally made Verdi's first world success a hit opera here as well. Since then - from Juan Pons to Leo Nucci to Plácido Domingo - many important singers have donned the costume of the self-proclaimed god of Neo-Babylonian ruler, and now the great Georgian baritone George Gagnidze is also introducing himself in this role. In the performance conducted by Daniele Callegari, regular stars, returners and debutantes there are many. In this way, the young South Korean tenor SeokJong Baek, who debuted in the company as Ishmael, can become a new acquaintance, while we have already admired the impressive bass of Dmitri Beloselskyi in the role of Zakarias the High Priest. Ljudmila Monastirszka has proven several times at the Met and in many other major opera houses around the world that she is one of the most professional owners of the role of Abigél today. And if we call him the standout star of the production, what else can we say about the choir of the New York Opera House, which proves its well-groomed sound, magnificent harmony and team spirit every time it performs the famous Freedom Choir.
