Narcissus, figure of manifest beauty, of the arrogant beauty of ingenuity, of the one who is condemned to love no one, too much in love with the reflection of his perfection which he adores like another, this inaccessible ideal.


Narcissus borrows some traits from the mythological character but he is above all a young man lost in his quest for himself.


In his transition to adulthood, Narcissus is exposed to success through the media, social networks. Yet in his solitude, the young man speaks to himself, torn between the constant concern to live up to the perfection of his social double and the isolation into which this avatar plunges him.


His double is finally the one he would like to be so much, the one towards whom all his love is concentrated, blinding him from reality, making him pass every authentic being for a cheap version of the human, condemning him to seduce and not be seduced only by artifice.


On his way, Narcissus meets Chloe, who, like the mythological character Echo, will be the voice of repetition, condemned to have no words of her own. But Chloé is not devoid of feeling, on the contrary, she glimpses Narcisse's loneliness and the dangers to which he exposes himself. She then chooses to encourage him to embark on the path of anonymity, of letting go, a path where blending into the mass is a sweet consolation to the hysteria of the world. But like an echo, it will only reflect the doubts he already has within himself.


Narcissus therefore faces a double mirror, on the one hand the social mirror of his pop and attractive avatar, on the other the mirror held up to him by the suspicious and fearful Chloé, a mirror of his fragilities and his ridiculousness.


The project offers a look at the complexity of our social relationship, in particular through the media tools available to our society. The characters are not yet adults, they go through a beginning of existence with a series of avatars of themselves which symbolize their desires and their social failures.


A screen is the main support of the virtual Narcissus, that of the simulacrum. The video will then show us how Narcissus models his image, being able to modify in contact with his hand, elements of his media self, a detail of his face, a lock of hair, as one models a magazine cover on photoshop before send for validation.


It is not a question of passing judgment on a society of images and representations. Everyone, in their quest for identity, exposes themselves more or less to the community of their own to experience a possible self. By confronting a self-image with others, we learn to define ourselves, to define what we seem to be and what we want to be. Digital tools amplify this testing of the individual who seeks his place in society.

Narcisse, figure de la beauté manifeste, de la beauté arrogante d’ingénuité, de celui qui est condamné à n’aimer personne, trop amoureux du reflet de sa perfection qu’il adule comme un autre, cet idéal inaccessible.


Narcisse emprunte quelques traits du personnage mythologique mais il est avant tout un jeune homme perdu dans sa quête de lui-même.


Dans son passage à l’âge adulte, Narcisse est exposé au succès à travers les médias, les réseaux sociaux. Pourtant dans sa solitude, le jeune homme se parle à lui-même, partagé entre le souci permanent d’être à la hauteur de la perfection de son double social et l’isolement dans lequel cet avatar le plonge.


Son double est finalement celui qu’il aimerait tant être, celui vers lequel se concentre tout son amour, l’aveuglant du réel, lui faisant passer chaque être authentique pour une version bon marché de l’humain, le condamnant à séduire et n’être séduit que par l’artifice.


Sur son chemin, Narcisse rencontre Chloé, qui à l’instar du personnage mythologique Echo, sera la voix de la répétition, condamnée à ne pas avoir de parole propre. Mais Chloé n’est pas dépourvue de sentiment, au contraire, elle entrevoit la solitude de Narcisse et les dangers auxquels il s’expose. Elle choisit alors de l’encourager à s’engager sur le chemin de l’anonymat, du lâcher-prise, un chemin où se fondre dans la masse est une douce consolation à l’hystérie du monde. Mais tel un écho, elle ne reflétera que les doutes qu’il a déjà en lui-même.


Narcisse fait donc face à un double miroir, d’un côté le miroir social de son avatar pop et attrayant, de l’autre le miroir que lui tend Chloé méfiante et craintive, miroir de ses fragilités et de son ridicule.


Le projet offre un regard sur la complexité de notre rapport social, en particulier à travers les outils médiatiques dont notre société dispose. Les personnages ne sont pas encore adultes, ils traversent un début d’existence avec une série d’avatars d’eux-mêmes qui symbolisent leurs désirs et leurs échecs sociaux.


Un écran est le support principal du Narcisse virtuel, celui du simulacre. La vidéo nous montrera alors comment Narcisse modèle son image, pouvant modifier au contact de sa main, des éléments de son soi médiatique, un détail de son visage, une mèche de cheveux, comme on modèle une couverture de magazine sur photoshop avant de l’envoyer pour validation.


Il ne s’agit pas de porter un jugement sur une société d’images et de représentations. Chacun, dans sa quête d’identité, s’expose plus ou moins à la communauté des siens pour expérimenter un soi possible. En confrontant une image de soi aux autres, on apprend à se définir, à définir ce que nous semblons être et ce que nous voulons être. Les outils numériques amplifient cette mise à l’épreuve de l’individu qui cherche sa place dans la société.
