Does man stand outside of nature? Is the individual enthroned in the center of the cosmos? Does nature have rights? Questions that arise when the world changes from being an equal, magical counterpart to a mere collection of raw materials. But what happens when this supposedly neutral "accumulation" suddenly strikes back? In Ariel Ashbel's "Idomeneo" project for the Mannheim summer 2022, the focus is on the fateful moment of Mozart's opera, in which the sea, stirred up by human error, sends a monster as punishment. By concentrating on choral scenes, ballets and orchestral moments, the focus is on the non-human elements of the masterpiece; it is complemented by music by Melika N'gombe Kolongo and Ethan Braun, creating a link to today.
