Russian composers captured the Russian landscape in their works, but also what the freezing winter emotionally stands for, for shock-frozen landscapes of the soul. The Saarland State Orchestra accompanies its audience into the New Year with waltzes, polkas and romances full of Russian soul. Music by Peter Tschaikowsky, Alexander Glasunow, Nikolai Rimski- Korsakow warms the heart as well as that of Johann Strauss, who premiered several of his works in concerts and at balls near St. Petersburg in Pawlosk, including his »Pizzicato-Polka« .
