Za istotę Wagnerowskiego Pierścienia Nibelunga można uznać zburzenie porządku rzeczy i powrót do niego: to wykradzenie złota Renu z jego naturalnego środowiska powoduje lawinę konsekwencji. Harmonia zostaje przywrócona dopiero, gdy wykuty ze złota pierścień wróci na właściwe miejsce. Stanie się to w ostatnich taktach Zmierzchu bogów, gdy walkiria Brunhilda ciśnie go do wód rzeki, ale okupione będzie śmiercią bohaterów i zniszczeniem świata. Co więc mówi nam, w dzisiejszych czasach, program Wagnerowskich fragmentów z teatralnego arcydzieła – chyba aż nadto oczywiste. Choć nie obejdzie się bez ofiar, to jednak mogą zostać nagrodzone – zdaje się mówić Beethovenowska uwertura Leonora, wprowadzająca do historii ukaranej nieprawości, jaką jest Fidelio. A wszystko okraszone fantazyjnym blaskiem Laterna Magica Kaiji Saariaho – fińskiej kompozytorki. Klasyka współczesności.

The essence of Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung is the destruction of the order of things and the return to it: it is the theft of the gold of the Rhine from its natural environment that causes an avalanche of consequences. Harmony is only restored when the ring forged in gold is returned to its proper place. This will happen in the last bars of Twilight of the Gods , when Brunhild's valkyrie throws him into the waters of the river, but it will be paid for with the death of the heroes and the destruction of the world. So what does the program of Wagnerian excerpts from a theatrical masterpiece tell us nowadays - perhaps all too obvious. Although there will be victims, they can be rewarded, Beethoven's overture Leonora seems to say, introducing Fidelio to the history of punished iniquity. And all this with the fancy glow of Kaija Saariaho's Laterna Magica - a Finnish composer. A modern classic.
