At the donau FESTWOCHEN in 2019, Joseph Haydn's rarely heard "Abduction" L'incontro improvviso focused on the so-called sujet of the Turkish opera, and Zaide now follows Mozart's view of the theme that was modern at the time.

Musically, the music dramatist strikes a new note. With Zaide, the 24-year-old is trying for the first time to advance towards German opera. The melodramas that precede each act are unique. This form of speaking to the music does not appear again later in Mozart's works. The Singspiel contains 15 numbers in a brilliant avant-garde style, but the composer gave up work. Overture, ending and above all the spoken dialogues are missing. This enables a new approach to the narrative of the great human themes such as the desire for love and freedom, anger and fear. Director Manuela Kloibmüller creates a scenic concept with new dialogue texts for the performances; a character driving or commenting on the action is added, played by actress Barbara Novotny. Musically, there are additions with the Symphony in B flat major K. 319, which was also influenced by Mozart's time in Mannheim, and a final chorus.

On the stage of Greinburg Castle you can experience a playful Mozart ensemble with the Festival debutant Ekaterina Krasko in the title role, the young tenor Jakob Maximilian Gerbeth as her great love Gomatz and the audience favorites from past Greiner opera productions Virgil Hartinger, Philipp Kranjc and Stefan Zenkl . The L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra conducted by Michi Gaigg will provide a captivating and touching Mozart sound.

Anyone who wants to draw a comparison with Haydn's view of the genre has the opportunity to do so, because the donau FESTWOCHEN production of L'incontro improvviso will be released at the end of May 2023 on the cpo label.

Stand 2019 bei den donauFESTWOCHEN bereits mit Joseph Haydns selten gehörter „Entführung” L’incontro improvviso das sogenannte Sujet der Türkenoper im Zentrum, folgt nun mit Zaide Mozarts Blick auf das in dieser Zeit moderne Thema.

Musikalisch schlägt der Musikdramatiker darin einen neuen Ton an. Der 24-Jährige versucht mit Zaide erstmals, in Richtung deutsche Oper vorzustoßen.  Einzigartig sind die Melodramen, die jedem Akt vorangestellt sind. Diese Form des Sprechens zur Musik taucht später in Mozarts Werken nicht wieder auf. Das Singspiel enthält 15 Nummern in einem brillanten avantgardistischen Stil, doch der Komponist brach die Arbeit ab. Es fehlen Ouvertüre, Schluss und vor allem die gesprochenen Dialoge. Dies ermöglicht einen neuen Umgang mit der Erzählung der großen Menschheitsthemen wie Liebesverlangen und Freiheit, Zorn und Angst. Regisseurin Manuela Kloibmüller erstellt für die Aufführungen ein szenisches Konzept mit neuen Dialogtexten; eine die Handlung vorantreibende bzw. kommentierende Figur wird hinzugefügt, die von Schauspielerin Barbara Novotny verkörpert wird. Musikalisch gibt es Ergänzungen mit der, ebenfalls von Mozarts Mannheimer Zeit beeinflussten, Sinfonie in B-Dur KV 319 sowie einem Schlusschor.

Auf der Bühne von Schloss Greinburg ist ein spielfreudiges Mozart-Ensemble mit der Festwochen-Debütantin Ekaterina Krasko in der Titelrolle, dem jungen Tenor Jakob Maximilian Gerbeth als ihre große Liebe Gomatz und den Publikumslieblingen vergangener Greiner Opernproduktionen Virgil Hartinger, Philipp Kranjc und Stefan Zenkl zu erleben. Das L’Orfeo Barockorchester unter der Leitung von Michi Gaigg wird für einen fesselnden wie berührenden Mozart-Sound sorgen.

Wer den Vergleich mit Haydns Sicht auf das Genre ziehen möchte hat dafür Gelegenheit, denn Ende Mai 2023 erscheint die donauFESTWOCHEN-Produktion von L’incontro improvviso beim Label cpo.
