Dans son oratorio, Bach nous raconte l’histoire de Noël, de la naissance du Christ à l’arrivée des rois mages.
Fondateur du Collegium 1704, Václav Luks nous fait entendre ici les trois premières des cantates qui composent l’Oratorio de Noël, lesquelles évoquent successivement la naissance du Christ, l’annonce aux bergers et l’adoration des bergers. L’Oratorio de Noël, s’il fut composé pour les fêtes de Noël 1734, époque où Bach était cantor de Leipzig, est en effet constitué d’une série de six cantates dont la musique, au prix de changements d’instrumentation et de tonalité, procède elle-même d’œuvres antérieures, chacune illustrant un moment particulier d’une narration qui va de Noël à l’Épiphanie.

In his oratorio, Bach tells us the story of Christmas, from the birth of Christ to the arrival of the Magi.
Founder of Collegium 1704, Václav Luks lets us hear here the first three of the cantatas that make up the Christmas Oratorio, which successively evoke the birth of Christ, the announcement to the shepherds and the adoration of the shepherds. Although the Christmas Oratorio was composed for Christmas 1734, when Bach was cantor of Leipzig, it is in fact made up of a series of six cantatas whose music, at the cost of changes in instrumentation and tonality, itself proceeds from previous works, each illustrating a particular moment in a narrative that goes from Christmas to Epiphany.
