On connaît la boutade de Debussy à propos de Richard Strauss : « Des deux Richard, je choisis Wagner, et des deux Strauss, je préfère Johann. » Mais s’ils passent pour des adeptes de la très grande forme, les deux Richard sont ici réunis à la faveur de deux œuvres concises : la Sérénade pour instruments à vent d’un Strauss de vingt ans, qui marche ici sur les traces de son père, premier cor solo dans l’orchestre du Festival de Bayreuth ; et les Wesendonck Lieder, cycle de cinq miniatures dans lequel Wagner affûte les thèmes qui seront ceux de Tristan et Isolde : message subliminal envoyé à Mathilde Wesendonck, qu’on est impatient d’entendre dans la voix de Matthias Goerne. La Passacaille d’un Webern qui n’est pas encore dodécaphonique et la Quatrième Symphonie de Schubert nous ferons faire enfin un détour par Vienne.

But if they pass for followers of the great form, the two Richards are brought together here in favor of two concise works: the Serenade for wind instruments by a twenty-year-old Strauss, who here follows in the footsteps of his father, first solo horn in the Bayreuth Festival orchestra; and the Wesendonck Lieder , a cycle of five miniatures in which Wagner sharpens the themes that will be those of Tristan and Isolde  : a subliminal message sent to Mathilde Wesendonck, whom we can't wait to hear in the voice of Matthias Goerne. The Passacagliaof a Webern which is not yet dodecaphonic and Schubert's Fourth Symphony we will finally make a detour via Vienna.
